The Thoreau is a 28-foot custom built, off-grid tiny house on wheels with main floor bedroom. The home was built by Dallas, Texas-based Indigo River Tiny Homes.
The rustic wood siding has a light Shou Sugi Ban finish. A large storage shed houses a 50-gallon water tank, two propane tanks, and tankless hot water heater. At the rear of the home is another storage compartment for the solar power system’s inverter and four batteries. There are nine solar panels on the roof.
Pella wood windows and full light fiberglass door provide abundant natural light.
As you enter the Thoreau you’ll step onto a landing with drawers underneath. Stained walls and ceiling create a warm, cozy interior.
The living area is large enough to fit a full size sofa and fold-down table. Above the couch is a Murphy bed with Texas flag decoration. To access the bed, you can use the same ladder that is used for the loft over the bathroom.
The kitchen includes a granite countertop, hammered copper sink with bronze faucet, catwalk storage, and toe-kick cabinets. The kitchen is equipped with a three-burner range, over the range microwave, and 10 cu.ft. apartment size refrigerator.
The downstairs master bedroom has a king size bed that pops up to provide a large storage space. There are two wardrobes, plus extra storage space in the headboard.
Above the master bedroom is a sleeping loft that is large enough for a king bed or two twin beds.
The bathroom features a stone sink with waterfall faucet, medicine cabinet, 3’x3′ shower with travertine surround, composting toilet, and storage shelves.
